The following collections are held by the North Cumberland Historical Society:

  • Archival fonds - Currently under development - Collections of materials from people or related to places, such as the Margaret E. King school, John MacQuarrie papers, and the Harry Brown papers.

 

  • Audiotapes - A collection of interviews taped over the years with anecdotes, personal stories and remembrances.

  • Bibles - A small collection of family bibles are available.

 

  • Cemetery & Obituary Files - All known cemeteries in the North Cumberland area have been photographed and periodically updated starting in the 1960s. There is an index and in many cases, an obituary available for that person.

  • Family Files - This collection is over 50 years old and contains letters, family trees, newspaper clippings of interest, obituaries and years of research published by the family - a real potpourri of material.

  • General History Files - Newspaper clippings and stories of historical significance to our area dating from the late 1700s onwards.

  • Ledgers - From locale area businesses and people.

  • Newspapers - We have the Oxford Journal from 1930s to 2015.

  • Pictures - Thousands of photos that have been organized and identified when possible to provide an easy way to find your ancestors.

  • Reference Library - We have an extensive library of resources to help in your search, as well as a collection of our own publications for sale.

  • School Roll Books and Ledgers

  • Yearbooks - For Pugwash District High School starting at 1949 and then from 1963 until current.
